Another of the old
identities of Hunter River has passed away. Harriet Lambert died in the
Lord at Lambton on Sunday April 3rd aged 86 years, and was interred in
the Little Cemetery at Oswald on the following day, alongside her Husband
James Lambert, who was for 37 years a consistent member and useful class
leader at the latter place.
It is about 52 years
since Mr and Mrs Lambert came to reside on the Hunter. They rendered yeoman
service to the cause of God in the early and intermediary stages of Methodist
history in the district and for many years were the mainstay of the then
flourishing society at Oswald. Mrs Lambert was an excellent Mother, a kind
neighbour and a true friend. Her piety was of a very cheerful type and
in age and feebleness she testified to the sustaining power of a saviours
grace. She leaves a large family of children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren,
by whom her memory is cherished with reverent and grateful affection. Precious
in the sight of the Lord is the death of his Saints.
